THE UNIONがブランド創設当初に最初に手がけたデニムパンツ――それが「THE FIRST DENIM」。その原点にあたる一本で採用されたのが、”JABARA POCKET”と名付けられた独自のバックポケット仕様でした。
この”JABARA POCKET”は、着物の十二単から着想を得た重なり構造により、ポケット内部に膨らみを持たせることで、物を入れた際の締め付けを軽減。さらに、口元が自然に閉まる構造のため、物が落ちにくいという実用性を兼ね備えています。背面から見ると、左右のポケットが大きな“T”の文字を描くようにデザインされているのも、このディテールの魅力のひとつ。
そんな”JABARA POCKET”を再解釈し、新たにリリースされたのが「JABA DENIM」。今回は当時のシルエットをアップデートし、腰回りは「TT DENIM」のようにゆったりと、裾にかけては「REIWA DENIM」を彷彿とさせるすっきりとしたラインに仕上げました。ボリューム感がありながら、全体としては洗練された印象を持つ一本です。
そして最大のポイントは、生地に2000年頃にアメリカ・コーンミルズ社で織られた、12.5ozのMADE IN USAデニムを採用していること。現在では希少なこのデニムは、当時の風合いをそのまま残しており、織りムラやシミなども履き込むことで「味」へと変わっていきます。厚すぎず柔らかさもあるため、履き心地も抜群。
アメリカ産の生地を用い、日本で丁寧に仕立てた、THE UNION渾身の逸品。

The very first denim pants created by THE UNION at the time of its founding were called "THE FIRST DENIM." The back pocket design used in that model was the original "JABARA POCKET."
Inspired by the layered structure of traditional Japanese junihitoe kimono, the JABARA POCKET was developed to eliminate the discomfort often associated with standard back pockets. The pleated structure allows the pocket to expand slightly, preventing tightness when items are stored inside. At the same time, the upper part naturally closes, making it less likely for items to fall out. Viewed from behind, the twin pockets are designed to form a bold "T" shape, adding a unique visual element.
This signature pocket returns in a new release: the "JABA DENIM." While retaining the essence of the original, the silhouette has been updated—roomier around the hips like the “TT DENIM,” tapering elegantly toward the hem in a shape reminiscent of the “REIWA DENIM.” The result is a silhouette that feels relaxed yet refined, with just the right amount of volume and structure.
What makes this release even more special is the fabric: a 12.5oz Made in USA denim woven by Cone Mills in the early 2000s. This rare, vintage fabric carries the character of its era—minor weaving irregularities and stains that, over time, evolve into a beautiful patina. Its slightly lighter weight makes it incredibly comfortable for everyday wear.
