“JABA”DENIM PANTS
THE UNIONがブランド創設当初に最初に手がけたデニムパンツ――それが「THE FIRST DENIM」。その原点にあたる一本で採用されたのが、”JABARA POCKET”と名付けられた独自のバックポケット仕様でした。
この”JABARA POCKET”は、着物の十二単から着想を得た重なり構造により、ポケット内部に膨らみを持たせることで、物を入れた際の締め付けを軽減。さらに、口元が自然に閉まる構造のため、物が落ちにくいという実用性を兼ね備えています。背面から見ると、左右のポケットが大きな“T”の文字を描くようにデザインされているのも、このディテールの魅力のひとつ。
そんな”JABARA POCKET”を再解釈し、新たにリリースされたのが「JABA DENIM」。今回は当時のシルエットをアップデートし、腰回りは「TT DENIM」のようにゆったりと、裾にかけては「REIWA DENIM」を彷彿とさせるすっきりとしたラインに仕上げました。ボリューム感がありながら、全体としては洗練された印象を持つ一本。
生地は12ozと少し薄めの岡山産のセルビッチを使用し当時の風合いをそのまま残しており、織りムラやシミなども履き込むことで「味」へと変わっていきます。厚すぎず柔らかさもあるため、履き心地も抜群。
日本で丁寧に仕立てた、THE UNION渾身の逸品。

“THE FIRST DENIM”—the very first pair created by THE UNION at its inception. Built into this foundational piece was a signature back pocket design dubbed the “JABARA POCKET.”
Inspired by the layered structure of the traditional junihitoe kimono, the “JABARA POCKET” creates internal volume, relieving tightness when carrying items inside. The opening naturally stays closed to keep contents secure. From the back, the left and right pockets form a prominent “T”—another captivating aspect of this detail.
Reinterpreting the “JABARA POCKET,” the newly released “JABA DENIM” updates the classic silhouette. The waist carries a relaxed fit similar to the “TT DENIM,” while the leg tapers down to a clean line echoing the “REIWA DENIM.” A pair with presence, yet thoroughly refined.
Crafted from a slightly lighter 12oz Okayama selvedge denim, retaining the raw texture of that period. Weave slubs and subtle imperfections evolve into rich character through wear. Not too heavy, with a natural softness—delivering exceptional comfort.
